Hi Everyone,

Since I've posted a few things here, I figured it was time to introduce myself. My name is Heather. I got started with orchids at a young age by my grandmother who had a very impressive collection. She passed away in 1999 and unfortunately, I do not know what happened to her plants. She lived in Pittsburgh, PA and had close ties to Phipps Conservatory and I can only guess that most of her plants were given to other conservatory members. Part of me hopes that some are still out there!

As for me, I've been back on the orchid scene for 3 or 4 years but only recently have started branching out into alliances other than Phals. I've had success with jewel orchids, dendrobiums, miltoniopsis, and a few others but my phals suffer...poor things.

I am here to learn from all you lovely people!

That's an impressive background! Caring for orchids seems to me like a long, involved apprenticeship, but, alas, it is often self directed study, and I am happy to say that I have learned a lot from this group! It is so wonderful to have an international team where everyone has similar interests!

Hi! Welcome to Orchid Board!
You mentioned close ties to Phipps...your grandmother may have donated her collection to Phipps. Many orchid collectors have done this. The Orchid Society of Western PA takes care of Phipp's orchid collection.
