Smile Hello from North Texas! ♡

My name is Kelsey! I reside in Richland Hills, Texas, a mid-city in the DFW area. Growing zone 8a, I have several tropical plants, Avocado trees, succulents and lots of mini-habitats and terrariums. My orchid collection includes 2 Vanilla orchids (a cutting and a baby) a Sobralia decora x macrantha (seedling), a Gongora cassidae(currently in spike), Stanhopea embreei x anfracta (s), an Epi coronatum x scriptum (s), and 3 very healthy unknown variety Phals(one is about to give me a second show!!), and 2 rescue Phals in much better condition than when I picked them up as clearance price markdown neglect plants. one was free and the other was $3!
I just started to collect orchids this year, even though I've always wanted them and obsessed over them every where I went. I was just afraid I couldn't give them a good life. Now I know better

I am an ongoing Horticulture student and will be finishing up my associates with in the next year. I love everything green, and live a very natural lifestyle. I am a licensed cosmetologist and lover of hair and makeup as they supply my plant hoarding habits
I am a dog-mom of two, and love to draw, craft and diy-renovate.

Hi and welcome Kelsey! You have joined a great forum for orchid information. So much to learn and see here, very helpful members. I've only been growing orchids for a couple of years and enjoy them very much, I grow miniatures mostly.

Richland Hills? I used to live in Keller, just loved Texas...would be amazing for growing orchids. You have a wonderful orchid vendor in Southlake, Big Leaf Orchids. I have purchased from them on EBay and their website is awesome.

Post pictures when you have some time, everyone loves seeing them. Welcome!

Richland Hills is pretty cool, very quiet but has horrible pest issues and completely awful water. However in a very interesting turn of events we may be relocating to somewhere else in the metroplex. I have recently been in contact with Peter from Big Leaf, plan to own a few of his beautiful babies and with some luck will get to visit the greenhouse!! (I think it will be like heaven)
I will post pictures of the pooches soon, I just found that thread, and will be updating this thread to include photos of my orchid setup and an interesting bud development on one of the Phals I have. (I had some trouble uploading them earlier, I think it's my stupid phone :/ )
