Hi, I'm from New Hampshire and I'm an Orchid addict.
Good afternoon all,
I hail to you from NH, growing zone 5b though I was born and Raised near Rutland, VT.
When I was in my mid-late teens and early twenties, I had a pretty large orchid collection that for the most part was happy. Nearly everybody bloomed. Then, my parents moved and I went with them because I was broke (something to do with the orchids, maybe?) and in college. Of my 30+ orchids, four survived... and I became, well, very depressed and all but quit orchids. I neglected the survivors, and one of them died. I also only bought bargain phals from Walmart and Home Depot... I killed most of them too.
I've moved, many times, since then and now I find myself in a good apartment with many windows of all types and directions. I wound up in HD looking for regular houseplants and came across a phal marked down because it's blooms were gone, but it was sure healthy. It sparked something in me, and the obsession has renewed with vigor. I go to bed thinking about orchids and I wake up thinking about orchids. I purchased three at the beginning of the month, one just now and hopefully one tomorrow (gotta wait, impatiently, for the bid timer to run out). I've put my small collection in my profile in case anyone is interested in specifics. I've also entrusted my boyfriend to counsel me on any more purchases until I know that all my new acquisitions are happy and I have a build up of 'fun money' again. I need to stay away from ebay and online vendors...
Anyway, it's good to find such a fantastic source of knowledge and I look forward to asking many questions!

Greetings Salixx:
Welcome aboard. My advice is to join the New Hampshire Orchid Society. There are some terrific growers in the club and put on a fabulous show every year. You will get good advice on growing. Good luck !
