Hi, I think Ross hit it on the nail. I looked closely at the plant, if you look at pic 1 and Pic 2, you will see in the middle of the root system is a white spot (the focus was not that good) upon closer inspection I noticed it is a small shoot (plant) starting to grow. I think this tells me it is indeed a lily. The plant also started to hang. I have repotted it in soil and it already seems better.

I still keep pointing on Amaryllidaceae (or liliaceae). How long was the plant growing (outside??) under the palm tree? If it was longer than 6 months and survived the conditions you mentionned, I think it even liked them... I would keep it then under the same conditions... just my two cents...

It was under the palm tree for 12 months. The ground sloped quite steep with no chance of rainwater forming a pool. It did not grow anything, it was quite stagnant, but as you say it survived. The spot in question is about 3 Kilometer from my place, approx. 200 meter from the beach. The conditions on my enclosed patio is very similar, humid, hot, lots of light (not direct sunlight) and a oscilating fan to create a slight breeze. To give you an idea, I swim about 10 months of the year in the pool.

The mystery plant looks like Cymbidiella rhodochila to me but I'm not sure:

Welcome to the forum Louis. Does the plant that no one could identify have an onion type bulb below the leaves? If it does then it probably could be a tiger lily as you said or nile lily which is what it really looks like or maybe an amaryllis.
