Hello from Iowa
Default Hello from Iowa

Hi all, just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Kirk and I live in Council Bluffs, Iowa (just across the river from Omaha, NE). I finally took the plunge on some orchids and as one might guess I have questions. Have to do what I can to keep them healthy. I'll be trying to pick everyones brain to make sure I don't do them in.

Thanks and looking forward to talking to you all.

Kirk

Hello and welcome!
Be careful...orchids tend to multiply from a few to many in very little time.

Welcome, Kirk! We can help you with that problem of too much empty growing space.

Hello from Iowa
Default Thanks for the warm welcome

I think I might have fun here. And I'm sure I'll find plenty of help in picking out additional orchids.

I've always wanted to get some orchids but just knew that I had limited choices of where to grow them that got enough light. The one location was accessible by my wife's cat. That's until I attended a orchid show a couple weeks ago and found someone selling mounted orchids. My daughter bought a Leptotes bicolor and then twisted my arm to get a Bulbophyllum cumingii. I "think" that they are doing okay but don't know for sure.

I'll start a post over in the beginners section with some photos to pick your brains.

Look forward to chatting with you all.

Kirk

Hi KirkP! I lived in Council Bluffs for 7 years, and then moved to Lincoln, then on to Sunny New Mexico! Council Bluffs has really nice garden soil. It is an awesome place. Have you been to the Omaha Orchid society show? I bought my first orchid there many years ago, though I have not really gotten into them until now! I really miss the place! Council Bluffs is a wonderful little town!
