I am new to the board and to orchid growing so I basically need to know everything! I recently just fell in love with orchids after years of not really noticing them very much. I don't even have one yet but I hope to remedy that this weekend. I am anxious to hear your advice!

I love gardening and houseplants but unfortunately we have a dark house. Our deck does get year round sun and I am hoping to convince dh that it should become a built in room that I can use for my plants.

I am in NC, married and we have two grown boys that still live at home. Guess they like my cooking!

Welcome to the OB Sherry! You're going to love it here. You'll find that people have all kinds of ways to grow their orchids regardless of what the environment is

If you've got grown up boys, you'll need something to baby anyway Anyway, they can help you to build a solarium on your deck

Hope you enjoy it here!

Hi Sherry and welcome to this wonderful place I am also new here and know nothing about these beautiful plants but everyone has sure made me feel welcome and given wonderful advice.

My best advice is get yourself 3 or 4 and then hand over the checkbook or debit card to hubby, LOL...they are very addictive

Good luck on your orchid adventures this weekend

Best wishes and Happy V-Day,
Jerri

Welcome Sherry. I doubt any of us "knows everything", that's why this board makes so much sense. I personally learn something new, just about every time I visit here - I have been growing (and killing) orchids since the 1960s.

Hi Sherry
Welcome to the neighborhood

There are a number of orchids that can take lower light...but an enclosed deck would be wonderful
Guess the boys will be earning their meals

If you need help with anything, let us know...we're all here to help each other
