Vanda in trouble?
Hi everyone. My name is Sylvia and I'm from San Diego, CA. I have been an orchid fanatic for almost two decades now. I have grown a lot of cymbidiums previously, and am more into cattleyas lately.
I have a vanda that suddenly just turned yellow at the top. I noticed this after the storms that we've had recently. It is hanging on the east side of the gazebo which takes a lot of the morning sun. I am not sure if it got soaked during the storm. Can you please advise on how to care for it or is it really in danger of being tossed out?
Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you.

I don't grow many Vandas, but if it's been out in stormy weather, I wonder if the crown is rotting?

Welcome to the Orchid Board!
San Diego is too cold and wet most winters for most Vandas to be grown outside. Vandas can also sunburn if they suddenly are exposed to more sun and heat than is usual. Photos would help.

Hello.
I will try to post a more recent picture after 5 posts. I moved the Vanda to a netted area and put a bit of Spanish moss around it.

Hello! I'm so excited to let you know that I just cleaned up the vanda and I saw a new one coming up. I dabbed hydrogen peroxide/cinnamon on the rotting crown and took out the yellow leaves. I'm keeping my hopes up that this beauty will thrive. It still gets soaked everyday for around 20 minutes or so. Should I fertilize it yet? or wait till it has fully recovered?

Great news! If it's growing, start fertilizing. Start lightly and ramp up rapidly.

The new growth I mentioned seems to be drying out. I'd like to send you a picture from my cell phone which i took at around 5:30 pm today. Can you please tell me how to do it? As for fertilizing, which do I use - 20-20-20? Do I spray it or soak it in the same bucket that it is soaked daily? Thanks.
