Hello, I live in Charleston, WV and our state does not have an Orchid Society and no local orchid growers. I love gardening and tend to purchase perennials. I was inspired after a trip to Hawaii in March to buy an orchid, after watching a lot of video's on Youtube about growing orchids I bought my 1st blooming orchid at Lowe's in April, it was a Phalaenopsis with no ID. I also bought a mini Phalaenopsis in May from the clearance shelf at Lowe's. Lowe's and Home Depot in my area only handle Phalaenopsis orchids, one of our local Kroger's (grocery store) has Phalaenopsis orchids and at Mother's day they also had a few Vanda type's and now at Christmas they have a few Paphiopedilum's. At the end of September I ordered a Dendrobium Micro Chip & Oncidium Twinkle from Wade's Orchids in Pennsylvania. For my wish list I will try to choose smaller compact orchids that are easy to grow indoors and fragrant.

Welcome to OrchidBoard There are lots of compact and even mini orchids to chose from, I like the small ones too. I only have to much room.

I think you will be quite happy with the Den Micro Chip, and the Onc Twinkle - very good choices!

Hello and welcome!
I couldn't believe that WV didn't have an orchid society but I looked online and, if they do, I couldn't find one.
In the past few years, I have gotten rid of nearly all of my large orchids and replaced them with smaller orchids. Except for the 'micro' orchids, I collect fragrant orchids. Good luck with your collecting.
