Hello, I'm new here
I was bitten by the 'bug' in August this year. What is it about these plants??? I want more!!! I now have 16 plants of different types, mostly cattleyas and of course some phal.s; the first plant to bloom in my care was a phal and is still going strong. I have bought most of my plants without flowers as I am and idiot.... No! really, I just research for the most fragrant types of any genus and if I can find one, that's what I buy. So I have lots to look forward to. I have ordered about 8 flasks which will arrive in January and two packets of seeds from a real orchid grower - not ebay which will arrive next week. Orchid media is sitting on the bench - 10 bottles sterilized and only one (so far) which has bloomed with things which should not bloom) Will give them a few more days and the ones that are still clean will get seeds. Seems like an interesting and precise process. You may have gathered I do tend to fly into my hobbies with a passion! Looking forward to learning and sharing with you.

Love it! That's how I am. I got my first orchid a year ago. My mom passed away and she had a few phals. I've killed all but one of those and gotten...15ish more. I too love the fragrant ones and I love species more than hybrids. I know they are harder (and expensive!) but that doesn't stop me.
You have to keep me updated with your seeds/flasks projects! I've been really considering ordering a flask after we move into our house in December. I have limited space currently. It would be nice to see how someone with my determination does with a flask. Sure we are new but also obsessed and soaking up every piece of information we can get.

Welcome! You really have jumped in head first. Just be clear on what you're getting into at each step. You're on course for needing a lot of space and a lot of time. Do keep us posted on developments.

Welcome, I did the same thing. Got a phal as gift killed it accidently. Then bought 16 flasks and began my journey with growing orchids. 2 years ago now.
Last night I did some flasking of my own once again, this time with the help of my 10 year old granddaughter who also was watching and wanted to try it. So after I was done I gave her a tube and some seeds that we flasked together. She is so excited to see them grow. Best of luck on your flasking and your orchids.

Hello and welcome!
Looks like you are having fun!
I really love the fragrant orchids, too. I recently bought a third Cattleya aclandiae.
