It's alive
My orchid death toll has finally abated. Through trial and a lot of error, I realized everything I was doing wrong; the media stayed wet too long, and I didn't gives orchid roots a dry period. Instead of using course orchid bark, I switched to leca media(dries quickly/good aeration). I water after media has been dried about 2 or 3 days. I keep a small fan running with a large tray of water in my enclosed indoor greenhouse-bonus of air movement and approx. 60% humidity, with temps in 70"s. Most of my orchids are showing signs growth. Hope this helps someone. Thanks for every ones insight and advice.

I've also found leca better than orchid bark in my climate. To helpwith ventilation, I've made holes all around the pots. My orchids (mostly phals)seem to lime it.

The bonus is that you never need to pick moss or LECA off the roots ever again!

I have all my hybrid Phals in Lecca, but I don't get on with it for other types of orchids. I'm in the process of moving some of the non-phals out of it. I love it for Phals though and ill carry on using it.

I water orchids in leca media just like I would if I were using bark; I just run water through it for a couple of minutes, not letting it sit in water.
