Hi from Hillsborough, NC. Male
Default Hi from Hillsborough, NC.

I bought my first orchid last November, and now I am officially a nut! Presently, I have 34 NOID phals. Most were purchased on the clearance racks at Lowe's, and the balance were purchased full priced at Lowe's. Trying to figure those sguys out in the winter, in a cool, low-light house was a real challange. Needless to say, I had my fair share of casualties.
Most of the orchids I have now were acquired this past summer and I kept them outside and they did okay, despite the heat, drought, and having a novice keeper. My biggest challange was figuring out how to bring them in for the winter! My girlfriend did not realize all those plants were coming inside! She was freaking out about the bark, dirt, bugs, etc. I decided to go the semi-hydro route and bought a really nice rack with lights, heat mats, and other stuff. The semi-hydro is working out great cor me. I am happy, my partner is happy, and my plants are happy! Thanks, Ray, For your site!
Now, I'm trying to figure what to do when these things finish spiking, as the clearance from shelf to light is ~15 inches! Right now I have 12 that are spiking! I plan on giving quite a few away as Christmas presents and Adding Phrags to my collection. I am nuts and I love it!

Thanks, MrHappyRotter. I will do that! I've been putting off going there or Atlantic Ave, because I am a little compulsive!

I like both Atlantic Avenue and The Orchid Trail. The Orchid Trail is more my style, and they have a ton of great Phrags in stock right now. A lot of their selection isn't necessarily in bloom, but most all of it is blooming size. Atlantic Avenue stocks and sells mostly in bloom/spike plants, but they only sporadically stock Phrags.

Also, if you do end up at OT, they have an amazing show greenhouse, filled with their personal collection of mostly orchids plus a variety of plants from other families.

Signed,

The Enabler
