Default Hello I'm new to this and to orchids but totally obsessed...

I bought myself an orchid about a year ago and am slowly adding to my collection. I've cut down a phal. that stopped flowering and have been delighted recently as it has 2 new spikes with flower buds on already!
Am awaiting the delivery of a small plant plant to start from scratch(ish) but I'm too scared and inexperienced to grown from a bulb yet!
I currently have 3 phals.

Default Prepare for a lifelong obsession.

A suggestion to you if I may. Many people want to buy orchids which are blooming because of that instant gratification thing. However, if I am in a situation where there are more than one variety of the plant which I wish to grow, I will see if I can find one of the same kind which has multiple buds. This way, I get to enjoy the flowers for a longer period of time, and sometims, there will be an orchid which has budded which has more flowers on it than something that has all ready flowered. As always, be sure to look it over for pests and good luck. By the way, welcome!!

Welcome to the OB. You have certainly come to the right place for those that love or are interested in orchids and for lively discussions on orchids.

I grow phals, dendrobiums, cattleya, and vandas...I only have a couple of each plant. I would not say I am obsessed but I do enjoy growing them...there is just something about it...I agree I like the mystery of what a plant will look like there is more appreciation for the orchid plus you get to learn something new too.

If you have any questions...or just need info...everyone is here to help.

Hi Julie,
Welcome to OB. Don't be afraid to ask questions and be sure to take pictures for us. We love pictures.
A lot of us started with 1 orchid that quickly multiplied. Enjoy your phals and make room for more.
