Hello from the Gulf Coast of Alabama
Hello to everyone! I am a newbie with orchids and am loving it.
Since the early nineties I have had my eye on these wonderful plants. They were mystical and captivating at the same time, almost as if they were hidden and to be spoken of in whispers out of reverence for their beauty and complexity. I guess I was awestruck. Time continued and I kept my eye on them.
A few weeks back a coworker brought me (unexpectedly) a bare root crucifix orchid out of his back yard...and so it began.
In one month I established a little garden of 2 Den-Phals ( one NO ID and one Aridang Green), a Den. Aggregatum, a Brassavola Nodosa, the little Crucifix, and a donated Vanda Dino Dream in bloom.
I think the Vanda does not look good as well as the Den-phals, but hey I have learned a lot this past month with a lot of online study on the cultures needed and I am trying to stay with the ones that can take the high heat and humidity of my location.
Thanks guys and it's a pleasure to be with others who are passionate in a common interest.

Welcome to Orchid Board! Many people do well with vandas in high heat and humidity. I have read even in the deepest south they need watering every day during warm weather - unless it's raining. Vandas also need a lot of fertilizer.
