Greetings from noob in Central Florida
I've been interested in orchids since I read the book The Orchid Thief and saw the movie Adaptation (both of which I highly recommend). But I didn't get any until much later. I started with a miniature Phalanopsis that I spotted at Target and bought for my wife. Now I have 6 phals (one of them I'm trying to revive for a coworker). I've attached a photo. None are in bloom, but all look healthy, and some have new shoots. I keep them on my screened porch in Central Florida, where it's always humid, and hot except for winter nights.
My kids tease me that growing flowers is "girly", but I respond that my orchids grow in a mixture of bark chips and little rocks, so this is a manly hobby [grunt, grunt].

Welcome to OrchidBoard! Your phals look great, very healthy looking. Good job. I think it is cool for a guy to be interested in orchids, there are as many guys here as gals I think.

Welcome to the forum. Nice phals! I hope you enjoy being in the forum, it is really helpful here to learn about taking care of our orchids.

It's usually the guys who lift the bags of bark, charcoal and LEICA, and the trays of plants for the show.

Welcome!
The orchid bug has bitten you, that's good!
Actually, in our orchid society, maybe 5% is female!

Welcome to Orchid Board! I live in Florida also. It's a great place for growing orchids.
