Hello from California! :D
Default Hello from California! :D

Hello, everyone!

I recently got into orchids after deciding on making a paludarium.
I have lots of african violets and their gesneriad cousins.
The sinningias and episcias weren't doing so well in my dry southern california climate.
So I decided to make a paludarium for them.
I looked up paludariums and I found out that you can put mini orchids in them as well.
That's when I started to look for different species of mini orchids, and got into a sort of.. addiction lol.

I got some mini orchids from Andy's Orchids not too long ago.
I have a 10 gallon rimless paludarium that I'm currently decorating and trying to find some suggestions on how to make everything thrive.

But other than all that plant talk, my name is Gabrielle (should've said this first lol).
I recently graduated from Cal Poly Pomona with a B.S. in Biology.
I hope to get into medical school within a year of taking the MCAT, getting some clinical experience, etc.
I got into plants after getting my first african violet at a farmer's market.
I tried propagating and succeeded.
That's when the love for plants started.
I'm pretty new to orchids, so I do need help on their general care.
I hope to learn a lot through this forum and get to know some of you as well

Happy growing, everyone!

Hello and welcome!
I just have the one African violet, bought this spring, but, long ago, I had a nice collection of them. They are cool plants. I hope you will enjoy the orchid hobby as well. I just did an order today from Andy's.

There are so many beautiful mini orchids from Andy's.
I'm just hoping that I don't kill any of the ones I bought because orchids are not cheap lol. They're definitely more expensive than violets, and I wouldn't want my money to go to waste. I love violets too There are so many different combinations of leaf shapes and sizes along with the different colored blooms. They're just amazing
