Default Good morning from Central Texas

Good morning, figured I'd better start here at the introduction page so you know who I am so here goes. I live pretty much smack dab in the middle of Texas in Copperas Cove. I'm 66yrs old, spent 22yrs in the Army and retired in 1990 then worked another 23yrs at Ft. Hood, Texas on the tank firing ranges there and retired from there in 2013. Being retired has it's perks but it's also boring at times so I decided to start growing some plants. As I got more and more I had to get a greenhouse to put them in over the winter. I've gotten so many more that recently I had to buy another greenhouse which isn't together yet (too hot to work on it) but will primarily hold my orchids and other small plants. Which leads me to my orchid collection. My wife had one that was given to her for her birthday by a friend last year but she just doesn't seem to have the patience to constantly take care of it so I took it over. That got me hooked. A few weeks ago I was at the local Walmart and noticed that in the plant section inside the store they had a lot of Mothers Day orchids that were looking pretty neglected but seemed to still be alive. I asked the manager if I could take them off her hands for 1/2 price which she agreed to. So, I loaded up my cart with 22 Phalaenopsis orchids, took them home, repotted and have them on shelves on my greenhouse. My other hobbies include collecting antique and vintage glass such as Depression Glass, Early American Pattern Glass, American Brilliant Glass and reading.

So, I guess that's about it for me in a pretty large nutshell. Being as I'm new to orchids I'll probably be filling some of the other forums with questions in the next several days.

Chris

Hello Chris, Welcome to the orchid Board. Before long you will have that new greenhouse up and full in no time flat. That is if your anything like us other orchid lovers and it sure sounds like it. What did your wife say about bringing 22 new Phalaenopsis home with you?

Thanks all for the welcomes. Colette, I imagine there's a place here to post my photos. I haven't explored too much of the board yet. Cntry, she really didn't have anything much to say, I guess because I paid 1/2 price or less for them. Lostfrog, you're right about that. My addiction to all my hobbies has gone that way. I have three cabinets full of antique glass and have it in various locations around the house also because I have no place to put it. The same with my plants. I was going to upload some photos but I see that I have to shrink them way down before posting.
