Hi from Winnipeg...windchill minus 45.
Experienced grower with approx 350 plants...Past President of Manitoba Orchid Society.
Hobby is for my benefit...not big on judged shows.
Plants presently in a basement growing room...temp and air controlled....Police have had an interest in looking at my set-up.......
In addition to Orchids I have a number of carnivorous plants...new and exciting hobby.
Have a few stubborn plants that I need to kick start from a spiking perspective..with your help.

Hi Deborah, thxs for the note.I have tried just about every species some with limited success.I stay away from high humidity cultures i.e Vandas and cool cool growers.....I love to water and don't do dormancy very well..i.e nobiles and the like.
My exposure to OB was simply an inquiry as to how to deal with my mature Den.Delicatum...never flowered .
Dormancy is the issue.
Great success with phrags, oncidiums, cymbidiums, phals and paphs.
Have a couple of sleeper plants that I need to awake and will post seeking help.
Regards from the frigid north.

350? Wow!That sounds absolutely fantastic! And expensive! I didn't know you could grow orchids in the basement. Also... I feel for you in Winnipeg. Here I am in Ontario, dreading a snow storm due tomorrow.

At my high point I had catalogued in excess of 400 plants. Some of which were cheapies from Society auctions and distressed sales at nurseries...most were at high end.All in all this is inexpensive when you look at other addictions.
I did learn a valuable lesson....don't get more plants than you can comfortably handle.....
My growing room was special designed to ensure that I don't destroy the rest of the house....one big problem however in that my electrical panel is located in the growing room...this became a major issue and resulted in the installation of an air exchange system...had to be done as we were down to 1 functional telephone jack....wife was most upset...but now all is in harmony.
