I live in NM too. I would not say that being in NM is a problem. My orchids spend 3 seasons outside. I am now getting into Miniature orchids and am building a kind of indoor jungle thing. Outside, the orchids do like it, but yes, you need to water them. If you have any trees, you really don't need a shade cloth. If you have shade cloth and a bit of a small pond/waterfall, which can be done with a bucket and a pond pump, you can create an awesome cool spot. I am in a really warm and really dry area of NM too.

Yup agree with the warm days and the dry but what about the cold nights? We're still getting down into to the low fifties at night heck the last frost was June 3rd in my part of the world.
