Newbie in the Big Apple

Hi Susanne,

I live in Park Slope in Brooklyn and grew up in Flatbush.

I'm a few blocks from Prospect Park and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

I'm growing my orchids in a little laundry room that does not have good weatherstripping on the door, so it stays a little on the cool side and the heat from the radiator does not dry the air too much. Good for the orchids, not so good for my heating bill, but I keep the door closed so I don't think it drains too much heat from the other rooms....and it keeps my cats from munching on the plants or knocking them over. LOL

The only problem is that the room is tiny and I am getting seduced into buying additional plants...I suspect that everyone on this list can relate to that!

Where in Queens did you live?

BTW.....what's the policy of knowing when/how to start a new thread if conversations wander of the original topic?

I grew up in Ridgewood and Glendale, then when I got married we bought our first house in Richmond Hill before heading out to Staten Island.

Since this is in your "Intro" thread, we can kind of talk about whatever we want We have a number of different forums for other conversations...if you have pets and want to brag about them, we have our Pet Depot, we have an Orchid Lounge...self-explanatory and we have an Off-Topic for just about anything else.

Sometimes, a thread will get "hijacked" and when it gets in the way of the original conversation, we move it to another thread...but I don't think anybody has ever been upset about being hijacked here. We all enjoy it too much

We pride ourselves on being a friendly and open place to meet other folks who share the same interests...I think you'll like it here

I really like the group already. I can tell by the tone of the conversations that there is good chemistry among the posters.

I've heard that some groups can get very "ouchy" about drifting off topic, but I don't sense that here.

I feel right at home :-)

I just wanted to jump in say to Jessica! Welcome to the board! I was enjoying this thread and had to say hi. I still am sort of "new" here too and I just love it here. It just feels like you're surrounded by a great group of friends and everyone is so willing to help you out. In the past I've lurked a little on other forums and was amazed at how mean spirited some people could be. (nothing against any other forums!) So that's my ! Hope you have fun here!
