Smile Hello from Queens NY!

everyone! My name is Jen. I have been an orchid grower for the last 3 years but it was the last 2 that really got me hooked into the hobby. I grow my plants in a New York apartment windowsill with southern exposure and the fire escape is the only outdoor space I have during the warmer months. Just like most, I began with noid phals and after killing my first, I furiously researched which opened my eyes to the rest of the orchid family. Today my collection in order of acquisition is...

Noid Phals (3 yr)
Noid Oncidium (some type of wildcat i think) (2 yr)
Oncidium Sharry Baby (2 yr)
Vanda Sansai Blue (1 yr)
Paph Somers Isles'HOF Jumbo'xPaph. Hsinying Majakun #7 (6 mo)
Paph primulinum var purpurescens x sib (6 mo)
Dendrobium Kingianum (6 mo)
Dendrobium Nobile Sweet Pinky Love (5 mo)
Rhyncholaelia Glauca (2 mo)
Encyclia Cochleata (1 mo)
Psychopsis Mendenhall Hildos (1 mo)
Phal Speciosa C1 (2 weeks)
Phal Bellina (2 weeks)

I am still a beginner and I just want to say a big Thank You to everyone who make this forum such a wonderful learning hub!

Cheers!

Thanks! I'm trying to pick ones that will keep me motivated as I quickly learned that phals can be a bit of a downer if I mess up and its yet another season of waiting. I think sequential are the way to go for me until I move on to advanced plants though I can get a bit ambitious from time to time.

Speaking of orchid society, I was just thinking about checking out the Manhattan one this Wednesday. A bit lonely in this hobby as I have no one else but my hubby to blab about how excited i am when the orchids does something...and he's a trooper patiently listening to me blab about it. lol.

Oh and on the left side is a Site Menu there is also a Chat area you can go to. Some times someone is in there, like me. hahaha

Welcome oceans!! Im originally from New York. Lol I visit every month. I live in New Jersey now. I'm sure you'll learn many new things. I've always loved orchids. And still very much so. I understand the loneliness. I have no friends in jersey and my bf doesn't care about the plants. He just nods his head and says I have way too many. Lol
I am always looking up types of orchids and I always ask questions. People here are always happy to help! And its fun to see the different kinds of orchids people have.
