Yes, if you accidently do one in, the trick is to move on as quickly as possible. . .there is so much to learn and each orchid had its own needs and requirements.

It hurts to give up on one and toss it in the bin, but learn as much as you can, move on quickly to try again! Because when you get it right and they happily bloom you're gonna be on cloud 9.

Wow, 70 orchids that's fantastic. Orchids are more popular in Barbados than years ago. The plant shops are now importing them. Only on Saturday, the shop that I went to had a batch of them, phals, dendrobiums and a few cambrias. So they are available, it is just that in some instances they are expensive. It just depends on who you purchase them from. T

This little island does not really miss out on much now but I think the internet has contributed to that. When is the last time that you have been to Barbados?

Thanks for the encouragement. Actually, I have spent the weekend deliberating on a Phal that I saw on Saturday. It was from a greenhouse, I did not think about it at the time but I should have taken a picture of it.

It was mature to me, the leaves were broad and long, the plant looked really healthy and it was blooming (not all of the buds were open as yet). It was white with yellow but the flowers were large.

My friend was asking me if I am sure that it is a mature plant or if it is large because it is a particular type of phal. I was not sure since I never looked at it that way. What are your thoughts?

I have been trying to decide if to buy this plant. I feel that it is a good plant to buy but it is just that .....you know. I don’t want to kill it.......

Although I know the answer, I will still ask- Should I buy the phal?

Welcome to the OrchidBoard Tanya,

You have perfect conditions to grow orchids.
The phal probally had water in the crown of the leaves and therefore, rotted the plant. Water your plants in the mornings so they have time to dry out.
You are living in a beautiful place that certainly needs orchids. Ask all the questions you wan here; this is the place to learn!
