Default Newbie from West Michigan

I developed an epiphytic cactus habit a few years back. My new habit landed me here.

A recent trip to the local greenhouse resulted in me purchasing a large, potted, non-blooming, unidentified orchid. I admit, it was a bargain bin impulse buy. I'm hoping to find some way to identify it by the foliage alone.

Welcome to the Orchid Board from Cadillac. I, also migrated from cacti and have not turned back. Hope you get a chance to go to the big show in GR next Saturday at Meijer Gardens.

Thanks for the welcome. I've been a member at Meijer Gardens for a few years now, but have never been to an orchid show. Looks like I found orchidboard just in time.

Fyschebone Welcome to OB

Welcome from Hudsonville, near Rivertown Mall.

I am sure you would enjoy the GVOS show. I expect to be there early (9:00) on Saturday to pick up vandas pre-ordered from Natt's. I like to get there first thing on Saturday morning to get a good selection of what the vendors have to sell. The vendor section opens Saturday morning but the viewing of displays opens at noon.

I go Saturday to shop and then go again Sunday afternoon to see the displays. I have found that Sunday afternoon is not a good time to shop because it is usually so busy. I also like to get a first shot at buying orchids before they get too picked over. If you want anything special, you can pre-order on the internet and they will bring it to the show. Saves shipping cost, and risk of shipping in our cold weather.

Possibly I may see you there. I will not know who you are but I'm not to difficult to spot. I'm the old, grey haired lady, who walks with a cane. Say Hi if you see me.

Note: I may be old, grey, and walk with a cane but that doesn't keep me from growing orchids in my home. I have LOTS of them.

You can see the schedule at Grand Valley Orchid Society (Grandvalleyos dot org) Drop a PM to me if you go.

Default Welcome fyschebone!

I have lots of family form up in Southwest Michigan in a couple of small towns called Gobles and Bloomingdale. I like to come up and visit there because of the relatives, but also because of the fruit-we ususally pick up loads of blueberries, tart cherries and if they don't freeze off, we get peaches, too. In addition, we enjoy going to Green Acres Orchids in Charlotte.
