Hello there:

I'm new to this whole thing, so I thought I'd say hello and get the ball rolling. I am a fairly new orchid grower. I have mostly phals that I purchased on the sale rack at the local grocery store/Lowe's, etc. Some of them have lived, but I am getting better at it and now have 20 orchids including 3 oncidiums, 1 cattleya, 1 cymbidium and 1 jewel orchid. Most are noid, but that is OK with me. One thing that trying to grow orchids has taught me is that you have to be very patient because everything happens slowly. When I see new bloom spikes I get very excited!! Then, three months later I am still waiting for the blooms!! Sigh!

I am planning to be at the Va. Orchid Society show next weekend in Richmond, so if you are there and say hi, I'll say hi back.

Welcome to Orchid Board! I'm sure you will find lots of orchids to buy at the show Be sure to talk to vendors and ask questions as they can likely give you some good growing tips for the ones they are selling.

Patience is definitely required for growing orchids! It can be difficult to remember

I guess a lack of patience makes me buy more orchids i also buy on sale while the orchids are not in flower - waiting for the blooms to show gets even more intence!

When I get bored of waiting for blooms, I tend to buy a new plant that is already in bloom. Haha Welcome!

That's how I got so many I think now at least I have enough that there is always something flowering or at least about to open.
