Greetings
Greetings to all board members from Maun, Botswana. I'm a wetland ecologist who got sucked into orchideering by being given a sick Ansellia, and subsequently several sick Cymbidiums. It's VERY hot and often VERY dry where we live, which makes growing anything a little tricky. So I've joined with the hope of being able to learn a little more about the orchids, of which we have a few indigenous, mostly terrestrial/wetland plants, and how to cultivate and take care of them.
Happy to have found the board

Welcome to Orchid Board
You have some beautiful country as I was lucky enough to visit some of Botswana a number of years ago.

Thanks
Thanks, I like it too, though it's a bit hot and flat for some; I live and work in the north-west, in the Okavango, where at least we have water from most of the year

We stayed in and toured the Moremi Game reserve in that part. Very beautiful. And then we had a short flight in a small plane over the Delta. Saw elephants and other wildlife-amazing

Ah, then you got to see the better bits (although the Kalahari can be pretty magical too).

Well, we saw a fair bit of Botswana and the Kalahari as well as Namibia. We would go back to parts of Africa in a heart beat if it didn't cost so much to get there. But I know, you have some harsh seasons just like we do here on the prairies in Canada. Just different ones. We were there in Oct and Nov. so weather was pretty good.
