Default Hi from sunny Jamaica

Hay I'm Simone from Jamaica. This is my first time trying my hand at Orchids. My Mom is always buying orchids which most eventually die so this time I decided to help her by researching everything on thier care so that the poor things would have a fighting chance.

In the process I decided to get a few so I could have some of my own.

I bought them (vandas) bare root on November 1 of this year and have been feeding them weekly with a prepared orchid fertilizer 30:10:10 and keep them in a humidity tray by north and west facing window .... I have no south facing windows.

I cant post pictures yet but I will as soon as I have enough posts to do so. But these are what I have

Kgw. Boon Rubb
V. Merv L. Velthuis x Adisak
V. JVB x Darres' Golden Heritage

Oh ... and they are all potted in clay pots with coconut chips charcoal and old broken up clay pot chips. I only need to water them thoroughly once a week and mist them every other day or so.

Everybody's throwing up some nice roots and seem to be doing well.

Welcome & Happy New Year!

Good job on your Orchid intervention with mom. How are hers doing? And good growing on your own as well. Sounds like you're off to a good start. Good, good , good.
