newbee budding in central illinois
hello from central illinois, my husband and i are one year into cultivating orchids, the bug hit hard ,and ,we now have probably 150 plants from various species  this is insane, but i have never enjoyed myself so much,we've had succeses,and failures,but only lost a few plants, and recently we have a dendrobium nobile blooming,spikes forming on arpophyllum giganteum and cattleyas so to other newcomers don't be afraid of taking a risk on species you have not tried to grow, but really would love to.here is dendrobium nobile sweet dream 'kukimo'  |

as i did most of the buying , i got a lot of raised eyebrows from my husband near the end of summer,but now that we are having some luck he is very happy i ignored him.

oh my!!!, we have several cattleya species, the blooming size ones are,warneri, gaskelliana alba, tianaei,warcewiczii and maxima,we hav'nt bloomed any as of yet.rhynchostylis gigantea alba started to spike the aborted, darn, we were really exited about that one,phalaenopsis schilleriana is about to bloom any time, ascocentrums, kagawara samrerng spiked aborted just as the buds were showing color and a few weeks later it is spiking again. but what i really can't wait for is to see the coelogyne christata bloom .

What conditions do you grow the Arpo. Giganteum under? I have had one for two growing seasons. It grows well but hasnt flowered for me.
