Hello from NYC!
Default Hello from NYC!

Hi Everyone!!

Newbie here, I've received several orchids in the past as presents but could never keep them alive (probably cause I knew nothing about orchids back then).

I recently purchased 2 small orchids from Trader Joes (phal & Sarco i believe). I am determined to keep these 2 plants alive. Due to space constraints smaller orchids work best for me at my current situation.

I'm looking forward to expanding my knowledge and collection.

Welcome from your neighbor up north!

I am a newbie too. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Look and search through old posts. Grab a cup of tea or coffee and Read through the first several pages of the following post:

It doesn't seem too likely that TJ's would have Sarcos (Sarcochilus ?), they aren't too commonly cultivatedin this country, but are gaining some popularity - tho I never say never

Thanks for the warm welcome. I've def been bit by the orchid bug. I really don't know where to start much in terms of purchasing orchids other than the norm of Home Depot for affordability.

I have been reading through some of the forums and I'm actually looking into online purchases but am concerned about the weather issues we have been having lately in the north east. I'm not sure if I can wait that long for warmer weather before ordering!I

I need my fix..

Ask for heat pack to be placed with your shipment. This really helps a lot to help keep them warm enough to shipping to you. Also express then as soon as possible 1 to 2 days top as you don't want them sitting in a warehouse or on a truck some where for a few nights. You will pay extra for both of these but its well worth it if you "need a fix right away."

Welcome to the orchid board also we all need our fix to here. LOL

Depending on your location, you may be able to drive to a sellers greenhouse and pick them up yourself. That could be a double edged sword tho! And welcome!
