Default I bought my first Orchid today

...and I didn't realize it was a seedling! I had no idea until CharmButterfly took a look at the picture I had taken and told me it won't be for a year or more before it gets a spike and blooms.

The orchid came in a package that says it is a Potinara Satoru Toshima "Lakeview", which I can't find anywhere on the internet, so I'm not sure what I have. I guess I'll find out in a year!

Welcome welcome!!

Who is charmbutterfly anyway lol
Your plant does look really small and i am sure others will agree needs to be in a smaller pot!
Post a pic here in the forum so the orchid elders can see and help you further!!

I went by World of Orchids in Kissimmee, Florida today and really liked the people that run the place. They are really knowledgeable and helpful. I plan on stopping by there often, since I live just 10 minutes from it. I bought three plants today, two "Karen" Dendrobiums and one "Sina Red" Dendrobium.

WELCOME
Glad you can join us at the OB
Looks like you have been bitten by the orchid bug and OAD (Orchid Acquisition Disorder) is setting in - Don't worry - it happens to the best of us .. and you have treated it well by buying 3 orchids ( instead of just one )

You may not have to wait to long for a flower, I bought a seedling in April 07 and it spiked in Dec. 07 and your looks much larger then the one I have.

Oh! and Welcome to the OB

Welcome to the Orchid Board. I never know how to tell a seedling from an adult unless I can see both. When that baby finally blooms, you can take all the credit!!!

These are my new babies, but I don't know what they will look like. Does anyone know where I can find examples of them? "Karen" and "Sina Red" Dendrobiums?

I could not locate a photo of this plant, but according to what I did find. Pot Satoru Toshima should be a large frilly purple cattleya type flower.
What size pot is it in ?

Right now it is in a 2 1/2" pot with lots of holes in it, then I have it in a 8" terra cotta pot surrounded by spung moss. I have left it outdoors and it seems to have survived the last 3 days. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...s/DSCN4811.jpg and http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...DSCN4813-1.jpg

The one I am worried about is my Den. Sina Red. One of it's leaves has turned a horrible yellow in just one day! I just bought them yesterday. It has about 15 minutes of sunshine sweep across the shelf it is on as the sun sets; is that enough sun to kill it? Otherwise it is just indoors, but sadly not near a window because my windows face south and I thought I read that was too much light.

Anyway, this is the shelf, the Sina Red is the one in the middle, and the leaf that is yellowing is on the left side of the plant.

Yesterday: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...s/DSCN4799.jpg

Today: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...s/DSCN4814.jpg (I switched the Karens but left the Sina Red in the middle)

Did I do something wrong?
