Aloha! New member from Hawaii
I have been lurking for some time but was just able to register last week. I live in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii (also known as "The Orchid Isle" for all the orchid nurseries here.) Up until three years ago I lived in South Texas and raised orchids in a greenhouse. Now, I raise them out in the yard-much easier! I presently have about 180 orchids (yes, I am definitely an addict and just getting started!!) I grow mostly catts, phals, intergenerics, dendrobiums, cymbidiums, and my newest interest, bulbos, and whatever other types look interesting. We also have a place near Volcanoes National Park at 3600 ft elevation in the cool cloud forest, so I am just beginning to experiment with cool growers. I rarely use any type of pesticide or insecticide, as my little helpers the geckos and anoles keep things pretty much under control here in Kona. I have learned so much just by following the forums here - looking forward to being a part of the site!
