Default New to forum

Greetings to all,
I am new to this forum and to growing orchids. I live in the High desert in southern California. About 6 miles north of Yucca Valley to anyone who knows the area. I have a 8 x 10 east facing room that I have turned into my orchid room. I have 20 orchids in my collection. I am a old hippie from the the 70's, I play bass guitar and love to grow anything.
I look forward to learning from all here and hope this to be an enjoyable venture.

Welcome. Any old hippie is a friend of mine

When you get around to it, why not share some pictures with us? We love pics around here. The little camera icon over at the right by people's name is a link to their gallery(s).

See you around the board.

Welcome to Orchid Board! I think you'll find this to be the friendliest places on the internet! Here you will find more than enough orchids to fill that 8 x 10 room!

Please consider joining in on the next Orchid Board Project coming up in March... A whole bunch of us get together online and discuss different plants. We then choose one plant for the Project and everyone grows that in their different environments, and compares notes.

More infomation about it can be found here:
Orchid Board Projects

Welcome aboard again! Looking forward to seeing your collection, and reading your posts.

It must be hard growing orchids in the desert. Ever try growing Mexipedium xerophyticum? Mexipedium xerophyticum

Glad you joined up and welcome to the Orchid Board!

Smile Thanks

Thanks to all for the warm welcome and I look forward to asking perhaps a few dumb questions which I have no problem with, and exchanging knowledge. Ross I took your advice and loaded a few pics, not great with the camera but learning. I am certainly interested in the orchid brd projects and would like to take part. Actually I live in the high desert my home is at 3700 ft elev, so its pretty good although it does get in up to 100 in the summers which will be my biggest challenge I think. Tindomul I have never even heard of the Mexipedium xerophyticum but will find one and give it a try.
Will try to be a regular contributer, its hard when surrounded by such knowledge. But I have prepared my mouth to except my foot just in case.

Your green room looks pretty energetic. Thanks for posting pics, it helps us understand your growing conditions.

Hi Toman
Welcome to Orchidboard!

Yes, you are now surrounded by folks with lots of knowledge in orchid growing...it's wonderful! We all learn so much from each other...and have fun doing it! You'll be contributing to the knowledge fest before you know it!

Our next project is scheduled to start on March 9th at 8pm EST, in our chat room. Our plan is to make a decision in time for a mid-April ordering frenzy I look forward to having lots of new friends joining all the "regulars". It's a great learning experience

What orchids are you growing now?
