Hi All - having become an orchid fan after my Mom passed last year (now that's a downer of an introduction), I've been reading this board for quite some time.

So, I received two orchids as condolence gifts, and became fascinated by them. In bloom, out of bloom, it doesn't really matter to me, they're just amazing. My husband decided my hobby is much less expensive than my other one - horses - so he's offered to turn a small bedroom closet into a tiny orchid house. At some point, I'll have my list of questions of how we can do this and remain married.

My collection so far, and this is from memory so not to be trusted, 1 Neostylis Lou Sneary, a mounted Meiracylium trinasutum which is currently living outside hooked on a big maple, 2 oncidium, a couple cattleyas, and at least a half dozen cast off phals that my friends and relatives have either abandoned or nearly killed. At the moment, nearly all of them are living outside until I herd them into their winter pasture.

Looking forward to learning more about their care from you all!

Jane in NC

That small closet will never be enough. Truth be told, no matter how large the space it is never enough. Somehow I managed to get my hubby to support my hobby. He is even helping with greenhouse remodel. Need more room this winter. Hopefully you will have the same luck. Welcome to the board!

I may need a greenhouse extension. My boss just brought me yet another abandoned phal.

Either Orchid Rescuer or Sucker must be stamped on my forehead.

Welcome to the board! I hold North Carolina close to my heart because I used to live in Raleigh and I got proposed to and married in the Outer Banks (not at the same time).
