Hi from North Carolina
Just found you all...I guess now that I live here, I should say Y'all! New to orchids. Love Bonsai and gardening in general. Picked up a bunch of Lowe's cold damaged orchids yesterday for next to nothing. Gonna give'em a try in a 55 gallon tank. Can you help get me started the right way? Hope to hear from you.
Fred

Hi Susanne,
Don't have a clue what they are yet. I'm waiting to see who lives before I look to see what I have. LOL Thanks for the website, I'll take a look. What I need is some plain english get started info...like substrate, soil etc. My tank is 55 gallons...I want to build a mountain with moss and fern and lots of orchids...maybe a gheco or frogs or whatever makes it interesting. Any suggestions?

That link will help you to understand the sepcifics of what goes into building or creating a tank. Our members are all very helpful so if you see something you're not sure about, just post a reply to it and somebody will come up with an answer or two for ya

Chances are you won't be needing any soil. If you want it to look natural, then your best bet would be to look at the links Sue provided. These show various ways by which people have placed their orchids into terrariums (usually by mounting).

Hello freddimenna!
Some of us can say Ya'll right back at ya! I'm from the Lake Norman area but now live in Sunny Florida. I was just home for ten days and I do miss the wonderful people up there. You found a very good Forum...I learked on several and finally landed here.
We're not all growers (ok I'm not) but we all love Orchids...although they feel they can turn my brown thumb green. Anyway...WELCOME!

Welcome to Orchid Board! I will also recommend the information in the link that Sue gave you. Many members here have set up aquariums/orchidariums similar to what you have in mind - and a few of them have documented, step by step, just how they did it.
Everyone here is always happy to help, so if you have any questions, or run into any problems, just ask away!!
