Default Hello from Washington, DC!

Home of the village idiot...ok, I will be nice, I am sure there are some folks on here that like him.

I'm Justin, I live in DC, I have been growing orchids since I was in 8th grade when my mother took me to this huge orchid greenhouse in Kensington, MD, I walked in and knew I was in trouble. I was right.

I have given up my collections from time to time because of temporarily living overseas, or for going to college, etc. But living in my own condo now, so back up to around 60 - 70 plants, way more than I have room for. Some things I am good at, some not so much, so this will be a cool place to ask questions and learn.

I been thinking of going semi-hydro, its the watering that makes me crazy and is so hard to tweak just right. Maybe s/h will be easier to monitor. Anyhow, look forward to getting to know some of you. Anyone in the National Capital Area Orchid Society? I want to join. That is a 12 step program, right?

Peace,

Justin

Welcome! there's a lot of very skilled folks on this board, as well as people with a whole range of experiences with different techniques.

there's also a lot of people here with experience with semihydroponics, including Ray who developed the technique. I'm just starting with it myself, but I'd be glad to talk about my (limited) experiences.

Welcome aboard Justin, no one is a village idiot around here. We are all here for the same reason to learn and teach about orchids. Sounds like you have a wonderful selection. You have come to the right place. A lot of great people on this board an sure you will be able to keep up with us...we have chat plotted for each night, but a fun place to get off track and back again. I as well live in a condo and orchid tricks are not as simple as it comes...room is a major. I live in Fl so DC orchid society is not one I am familiar with but in hopes that someone will be able to help you in that respect. Help yourself to the photo gallery and feel free to upload your photos, fav's and boo-boo's are welcomed, noting no one is shy here so please look around and enjoy. Hope to see you in chat.

Hi Justin, welcome to the Orchid Board!

Lots of great information here in the forums and in the chats. Several of us have been getting our feet wet with semi-hydroponics laterly, myself included with some phals, paphs, catts and seedlings. Ray has some excellent info to get you going at http://www.firstrays.com/
