Hello from Eastern Kentucky
Default Hello from Eastern Kentucky

Hi everyone. I've been using orchidboard as a non-member for over a year- when I had a question, I just googled keywords and Orchidboard, and usually found very helpful info. I am finally registered, and am excited to actually be able to post questions!

I started growing orchids about 2 years ago. I used to have a black thumb, but when someone gave me an orchid as a gift, I managed to keep it alive! It was a large phal which grew a keiki and flowered twice a year. I love orchids, and want to grow as many as I can!

When I first started growing, I lived in San Diego (twelve blocks from the ocean) and all my plants were either on a covered east facing balcony or inside near an east facing window (with my windows and balcony door open almost all the time). As of 3 months ago, I live in a "holler" in eastern Kentucky, and now all my plants are indoors along or near a southeast window. Unlike in San Diego, the heat or AC is running most of the year, so the air is a lot drier. However, all my plants are still doing great so far...

I don't have a lot of plants, but here's the list so far:
5 Phals
1 Oncidium "Twinkle"
1 Encyclia Radiata
1 Mitonia "Cream Puff"
1 Leptotes Bicolor (mounted)

Anyway, I'm happy to be here and learn from all my fellow orchid lovers!
