Hi everyone!
I just joined this forum a few weeks ago, and I thought it was probably time to introduce myself and my tiny orchid collection. I'm currently a grad student studying clinical psychology in Dayton, OH, and was bitten by the orchid bug last year. My growing space is, unfortunately, not as good for them as I'd like it to be, but hopefully I can change that in the near future.

They are currently in my bedroom, which only has a single, north-facing window, and I haven't been able to purchase a grow-light just yet. The humidity is also fairly low, so I try to keep the mixes moist. There is plenty of good air-flow, though!

Without further ado, here are my 'chids.

The first pic is just my little set-up. They are sitting on my dresser, with a home-made humidity tray.

In the red pot is my NOID phal from Lowes. It has very pretty magenta flowers when it blooms. Look at its new leaf!

The onc. is my Twinkle "Pink Profusion." I just got that one about a month ago. I think it's still acclimating to my house, but it has some nice new leaf growth.

In the copper pot is my DTPS. Kenneth Schubert "Blue Star" x Dor. pulcherrima "blue." I got this one from Hausermann's Orchids. I can't wait until it blooms! The smallest leaf has grown in since I bought it.

Finally, my Hwra. Lava Burst "Puanani," which my mom bought for me at the orchid show at the Krohn Conservatory in Cincinnati. It was in pretty bad shape when I got it, as you can see by the totally flat and wrinkled pseudobulbs. But, I put a plastic bag over it to raise the humidity, and look! I have a new nubbin! I'm so excited about that

Thanks, guys! Happy growing!

Welcome to the boards, Reeses. Very nice collection. And, as a grad student in your chosen field, you need to know up front that there is no known cure for this addiction. The more space you have, the more orchids (and varieties of them) you will acquire. I bought two beautiful phals at the Philly flower show in February thinking that 3 was more than I would ever need. Well, it didn't turn out that way. I have added 3 more phals, 3 paphs and 2 milts. My partner (Maria) and I are moving into a larger house in a few months which has lots of South and Southwest windows with no trees blocking the sunlight. I now look forward to acquiring some cyms and catts. God help us! Thank goodness she loves them, too.

Thank you all so much for the welcome!

Lexusnexus, I think that's how I'm starting out too haha. Right now, lack of space and money is all that's keeping me from buying so many more! I would love to try a paph at some point, but there's a part of me that says I should wait until I know I can take care of the ones I have
