Thumbs up Potential Orchid Grower

After receiving an orchid shipment with problems, I began searching the web for answers. I ran upon this site and I think it is the place to go for orchid info.
Several years ago I purchased several of Home Depot's "clearance" orchids. Needless to say they needed help, and so did I. I had always heard orchids were hard to grow, but with my natural green thumb I just new I could rescue these babies.
Wrong! I didn't have a clue. They survived, but never bloomed.
Then I bought a greenhouse, just knew this was the answer. They all shriveled up and died.
All of that is behind me now and I am going to try again.
This interest in orchids came alive again when I was given a phal, in bloom. There were two in a pot and the blooms lasted quite a while. For the summer I put them on my screened in porch and they flourished. A friend told me to water when my peace lillie needed watering. I tried this and it works.
This orchid has since gained numerous huge leaves, has two new spikes and a new spike on the old one. So, I decided to purchase more.
You know you can really get involved in these things.
I ordered 2 cats and five phals.
The cats came with brown spots on one leaf and the phals have what appears to be snail scars. After speaking with the vendor, he convinced me that these problems were not anything that would cross over to my one good orchid, and would send me a complimentary package of orchids to sooth me fears.
Looks like I am back in the orchid business. Maybe I will be more successful this time.

I will post pictures when I figure out how to reduce them enough so they will download. I have them down to 372kb now.
