Hello from the Virgin Islands :)
My name is Kitty and I am a newly discovered orchid lover. I've always grown (and killed) vegetables and plants that can feed, but starting about two months ago I have just fallen in love with orchids.
I have a second one waiting for me at the flower shop where I work, I just decided on a container to put it in at home so I'll bring him home on Monday
I look forward to enjoying this forum, I love forums!

Welcome. What kind of vegetables do you grow? I love to ponder tropical gardens especially on cold damp days here..

Thanks Sharry! I have grown cherry tomatoes, kale, black eyed peas, and various herbs in the past. I look forward to the rewards as my orchid family grows and brightens my house!

Well good luck. Which kind of orchids do you find most beautiful. If I lived in a tropical climate, I would get big ones that a windowsill grower does not have roome for: vanilla, big vandas, big Cattleyas and I love the really big Dancing lady oncidiums.

I wish I knew enough to know! I did see a Anacheilium cochleatum alba, or as I like to call it the cephlapod orchid, at a local orchid show this weekend. There was another one that looked like a wonderpus octopus, but I can't find a picture online and unfortunately I am having trouble uploading photos to this forum. I think my orchid is a phal, eventually I'll get my technology to cooperate and share a photo.

Thanks for the tip, I've been in other forums with guidelines like that. I did however make an album of photos from an orchid show I went to this weekend! I'll make a separate album where I can eventually put up pics of the whole family, once there is one...

I have southern facing big (BIG, four floor to ceiling) front windows in my mud/laundry room (I know, weird spot, not my choice though), that I am very tempted to put a vanilla in now hahaha. If only I can find one though...
