Hello all,
I just realized that this is probably not the place to to get a cure to my addiction , but no matter, the line was crossed long ago.

I'm new to this forum and after lurking around for a while I thought it's time to introduce myself. I started growing orchids about three years ago. Mostly I grow phals but have slowly expanded to to other types until arriving at the hodge-podge of a collection I have now. I live in Massachusetts and am currently going to school for Horticulture and am hoping to become a plant geneticist. I love learning anything new and hope to learn and absorb from the tremendous knowledge contained in the people contributing to this website.

Welcome! I agree with Sue, Orchid Board could be subtitled 'Enablers-R-Us! I know that my collection has pretty much tripled in size thanks to the folks here and their beautiful photos and recommendations.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the encouragement as much as I do! (not that much encouragement is needed to find another orchid to fall in love with!)

I like 'Enablers-R-Us', maybe we should change the name to that. Do you think it would be fitting?

As to what other orchids, here's the list:
Hwra. Lava Burst
Dend. pierardii
2 Neofinetias
Aerangis citrata
Onc. Twinkle
Laelia fourneri
few tolumias
few Ascocentrum species
Ascofinetia Cherry Blossom
a couple Catt hybrids and one compot-Catt. Elephant Drops (got it just for the name)
a handful of brachy? type Paphs
and to round it out, one Encyclia cochleata

It really is all over the place right now. I do need help with something though, want to ask if anyone has ever used wetting agents with their orchids, but didn't know exactly what forum to post it in.

Thanks everyone for the welcome. And I'm saying Hello back.

irphrog, I read the link and learned a lot from it (like your orchid collection too, btw) , though its not exactly what I mean, but its going to get posted. I just want to do more googling research first.

It's a chemical that you add to water to make it wetter-it cuts the surface tension of water so the potting medium does'nt repel the water as much when you water it. It's mostly used in golf courses and in greenhouses for their hanging baskets.

Time to put down the books now-I feel my head cramping.

(P.S.- LOVE all the smiles to choose from.)
