New to orchid collecting, not so much to orchid growing. As my partner said, I needed my own plant obsession to occupy my time while he was working with his carnivorous plants. I currently have 23 plants; most collected within the last 2 months. I have a habit of "rescuing" plants from box stores (I have 5 mini Catts that were reduced because of cold temps in a Lowes greenhouse). I have 2 species orchids (Phal. schilleriana, Lpt. bicolor) as well as many orchids purchased simply because they interested me. My growing setup involves an indoor greenhouse with grow lights using CFLs on a timer and a variable speed fan. All of the orchids are on humidity trays inside the greenhouse as well. The only 4 orchids currently outside of the greenhouse are 2 recent acquisitions that are under quarantine and 2 that are too large to fit inside right now (Paph. Crouching Tiger and Onc. Sharry Baby 'Red Fantasy'). I'm looking forward to learning more about these amazing and beautiful plants.

Your story is quite reminiscent of mine! My husband is into carnivorous plants too.

Welcome aboard! Warning: Orchids are like Pringles, you can't just have one, or a few. Hehehe...

Welcome from another Tarheel. There are many Orchid Societies in NC that you can visit to get lots of information on growing orchids. And there are some really fine Orchid Nurseries that also will help you.
