Stopped by the garden centre on my way home to pick up a Valentine's gift for my wife. Orchids, of course! They even boxed up the goodies and wrapped it. We're very pleased with our first orchids

According to the tags, these are both Phals: Xen Chain Queen '2064' and Tai-Ken Rose. I did some searches online, but couldn't find a reference to the latter. Any suggestions?

I think it should be Tai-Kan Rose, registered in 2004.

I can't see anything like Tai-Ken on the RHS register. Sometimes that might mean a miss-spelling or sometimes it might mean it's a trade name which isn't registered.

Very pretty though

Thanks for the IDs. Some of these tags are difficult to decipher.

This afternoon we visited the Batavia Orchid Society show and enjoyed seeing the displays, listening to talks, and perusing the vendor offerings. Our son was a bit bored, but he went off with his Mum to check out the animal expo next door for awhile.

We came away with 4 new plants:

Catt. Blc. Lily Marie Alma's 'Mgr'
Paph. Pandemonii 'Shock Wave' x Paph. Thunder Mountain 'Monarch Pass'
Biira. Tatioma Glacier (not sure what this is? It's white & purple)
(Paph. Supersuk 'Eureka' AM/AOS x Paph. Raisin Pie 'Hsinying') x Sib (does this mean a crossed plant crossed with itself?)

Next on the agenda is probably the Chicago Botanic Garden orchid show

now Aliceara Tahoma Glacier...
XSib means crossed with a plant from the same parents but not selfed - ie from pollen from a bloom on the same plant.

You should consider joining the BOS - all info is on FB or the web. We are always in need of new ( and younger ) blood.

I seem to have acquired more plants! We went to Hausermann's open house last weekend, and today finally visited the Chicago Botanic Garden orchid show. As a bonus, the Illinois Orchid Society also has a show there this weekend. Things are getting a little crowded under the basement grow lights!

WELCOME &
WOW! You got to visit them all, that's so awesome! I learned about them too late and missed the shows and open house but plan to visit the Orchid show at the Gardens before it ends. Can't wait even more now!

Sounds like you've got a very green and colorful basement!! I'm new too and no doubt I'll be visiting Hausermann's and growing my collection soon...

Cheers to you and yours! Great gift for your wife btw. :-)
Lotis
