It's been killer hot in Grahamstown too! I make sure to keep my orchids well watered (with over-watering.... a sometimes tricky balance!). It may help to have a fan blowing around the room they're in.
Phalaenopsis shouldn't suffer too much from the heat, as long as they stay adequately hydrated; the flowers will probably last slightly less long, however.
I've never used mozzie coils around my plants, so I have no idea!
If it's really hot (and dry - low humidity) your plants may benefit from a "misting" - don't do this too late in the day (morning through to mid afternoon). Plants should be dry by night.
You may also find if you have aerial roots these benefit from a mist without wetting all the potting mix.
