Default anyone else live in insanely cold laces?

Im new to the forum and really new to orchid keeping. the only experience i have is an oncidium twinkle about 7 years ago in california. An now i hae two phals and i live in south dakota. currently -10°f.
does anyone else share the same missery?
Im really looking forward to learning so much more about the different orchids there are in the world, and cant wait for this winter to be over so i can expand my 'collection.'

I live in Ohio and our winters, as of late, haven't been too bad. Still, it isn't a tropical paradise out there. :|

I used to live in Omaha-- crazy cold according to me, but I think people in Chicago or Milwalukee or Detroit have it even harder. I am in New Mexico, and really contemplating a move to Missouri (St. Joe) and a lot of the reason is because it is cooler and more humid (yeah, because I want to get better at growing orchids for one thing). According to the weather the summers do not get hotter than 88 but you can have a 70 or so percentage humidity. Just my kind of place!

I know we have members in Edmonton Canada, Sweden, Norway - so they are out there (growers in very cold winter climates), so you are definitely not alone!

Currently -1°F (-18°C) here in Madison WI at 6:24pm, just starting to cool down for the night.

Wow, good to know. Hopefully I can learn how you/they maintain orchids indoors or out.

Optimist- I've only been living in SD for three years now, I'm originally from CA. I miss the tropical/desert type of. . . environment. Very good conditions for a lot of things.

Vjo- I currently live in Watertown, SD. Does that sound familiar?

Thanks guys, looking forward to a lot of learning here.

Well hello neighbor, I live in Wyoming so it can be done. Not that I am any pro or anything hence the user name

I joined this forum so I could do better by my poor orchids. I have been guilty of not re-potting soon enough and not watering enough. But since I have done all that I am having pretty good luck.

I have 8 phals spiking one of them is just opening. Not only do I live in a cold area but my house is not the warmest and of course then there is the humidity.

Any way if I can do it so can you
