Hi,
I reside a little west of Brisbane, Queensland and has a sub tropical environment.
I have decided on joining a forum to learn about my orchids so I can improve on what I am doing, currently "mostly nothing" and seems to work.
How did I get into orchids, quite simple really a friend gave me one and then another and slowly my number has grown. Not a lot about 20 and growing. I will list what I have while I can still read the tags, maybe a good idea.
Why do I like orchids, I just enjoy the flowers they can produce and seems I get some good spread of flowers.
I grow mine in my pergola as I cannot set up a greenhouse, so they have to be somewhat tough. I am currently setting up a automatic
misting system to induce fertiliser via venturi system. Another learning curve getting this correct.
The pergola environment seems to be ok as it self seeds crows nest ferns and tree ferns along with a number of other ferns.
When I get an opportunity I will post a couple of photos, go easy on me not as flash as some photos on this site, another area I need to learn.
At least now I am starting to narrow down the type of orchids I like, which is a good start.
Not sure if I like what my friend did by giving me an orchid after doing some reading its about as infectious as my fishing and seems likes it going to cost me about the same (HEAPS).
Anyway looking forward to reading the posts and asking some question to guide me in the right direction.
Brian
