Default Hello, I'm Gregg and I'm an orchid addict

Hello there, folks. My name is Gregg and I am an orchid addict. What kind of orchid addict? I am addicted mostly to intermediate to warm growing orchids. I have a tough time trying to grow ones that require alot of humidity, such as masdavallias, draculas, zygopetalums, miltonias and some types of pleurothallids. Our collection includes most of the usual suspects-Phalenopsis, Phrags, Paphs, Catts, Oncidiums, Vandas and Dendrobiums, plus a few of the very different types such as Lachartia. I like the very different types, as long as it meets the perameters above plus it does not require too much extra humidity.

Hi Greg,

You've certainly done a good thing in joining the OB. A wealth of orchid knowledge available just for the asking. Your growing conditions sound very much like my own and I have also had good luck with Zygopetalums, except that they got so large I ran out of space and had to pass them on to someone else! They are easy to grow though and have a wonderful fragrance.

Shirley

Hello Greg!!!! My name is Juan and I just joined about a week ago as well. Sounds like what you need to do is build yourself a house/greenhouse like I want. That way you can enjoy the comforts of tropical living and still be in the captivity of the concrete jungle! Lol! Have a good one!

Hello, I'm Gregg and I'm an orchid addict Male
Default Thank You For The Warm Welcome

There were a few things that I did not mention when I first posted. To begin with, as most orchids, I have mine spread all over the place. I don't really know how many I have, just an approximatiion. I have a free standing greenhouse that I built with a friend of mine about 5 years ago-I am glad I had his help, because I am mechanically challenged. It was from a kit and it is 8' x 10'. As I had said in a previous post, no matter how big the greenhouse you get, you always wish you had at least one size bigger. In addition to the greenhouse, we have a garden window on the east side of my house for the inside plants that like light, and in the west bedroom window, we have some low light plants-paphs, phrags, Wilsonaras that don't want a bunch of light. As you all know, this is a learning process, and I am having a tough time learning.

Welcome to the Orchid Board. Glad you were able to join. There is a way around not being able to grow humidity lovers in a dry environment. I like to grow mine in terrariums.

Default I don't have enough room

Unfortunately, we have a small house and I just don't have room for aquariums. There is a gal in our society that grows them like that, though, and has almost all of the ones that I mentioned that I could not grow, except the Zygopetalums.
