I bought my first orchid at Carrollton Flower Market here in New Orleans. The rest of them were acquired at Home Depot and Lowe's. I just bought one recently from Winn-Dixie they have some beautiful orchids (and those fake blue dyed crappy ones too).
As for growing conditions I grow them in my home. I only use my North and East windows. I let them have indirect light by shutting the blinds or closing the drapes but still allowing that beautiful Louisiana sun to pierce through and show them love. I mist them daily...twice a day. I have 2 sitting on humidity trays. I run my heat in the morning to bring my inside temperature up to 74 degrees and I let it remain on auto to keep the temperature that way. At night I change the temperature to 65-67 degrees by turning on the A/C. I have my ceiling fans on low to allow the epiphytes roots to get air.
