Hi Everyone,
I found this board while doing a search for fans for my orchids. I am fairly new to the hobby, always thought of myself as having a "brown thumb". I bought my first orchid off of ebay, a cattleya 'First Love' because it wasn't too expensive and figured if I killed it, it would be a fairly inexpensive lesson learned. Well, I'm proud to report it is still with us and is currently in spike again. I laugh when I think back on how PETRIFIED I was when it first showed up in the "LIVE PLANT, OPEN IMMEDIATELY" box. I called a supervisor friend at work, who I had recently found out has been growing orchids since the 70's, and in a panic asked him "What do I do with it NOW!" I just knew I was going to kill it....
He was chuckling about my nervousness, and has given me lots of help with my plants.
I only have about a dozen plants, so far...
My husband gave me a gift certificate to Akatsuka Gardens on the Big Island of Hawaii. We had gone there on a belated honeymoon year before last and I got to see the place firsthand! Truly amazing, so many beatiful orchids right in front of me. Even my husband was having a good time looking at and photographing all the gorgeous orchids.
I have installed a Tek5 light in the home office to increase my room. I currently am using the top of a roll top desk for some of my larger plants. The area in the kitchen was starting to look like a jungle...I used the gift certificate he gave me and am awaiting the newest arrival to my collection.
I'm looking forward to the fun and wealth of information on this board!
