Hello Hello my name is Juan!!!
Hello my name is Juan and just posted here for my first time. I found that about 7 years ago that I had a passion for orchids as their beauty and mythe took me into a trance state of mind. I have also collected poison dart frogs and carnivorous plants. I don't have a greenhouse right now so don't want to put any plants through the torture of house hold living (keep them around when just in bloom). I look forward to involving myself and getting to know a little more about what we all here love!

Welcome to the Orchid Board. The original mission of this board was to provide a place for froggers like myself to discover the world of orchids and merge it with the world of frogs (poison dart frogs). So you came to the right place.
Actually many orchids do very well in the house hold. Most only require a little more humidity than ambient (depending on what part of the country you are in), and artificial lighting will do also. I and many others here also opt to keeping orchids in vivariums/terrariums for added ease of proving light and humidity.

Thanks for the positive reply!
Thanks for the positive reply! I just happened to run across this site hunting around the web for cool sites and plants. A couple of favorites is the psycopsis (oncidium papilio) and of course the polyrhizza lindinii. I also came across a wonderful plant species called amorphaphalus. I don't know if you are familiar with these "voddoo lillies" but if you get a chance check them out! Again thanks for welcoming me and hope to here from you soon!

Well, did you just mention Amorphophalus? I've had one for a very long time. It's in the basement resting, and should be out in all its smelly glory next spring. Let us know how yours comes along. Your orchids too!

Juan, although I have never tried an Amorphophallus myself, I am quite the Aroid nut. Aroids are my second favorite group of plants.

Thats just great. You should let me know as well about your amorphophalus and how it is doing. I just refrained today from buying a paph and a masdevalia that was unmarked and yellow. If i could I would buy a different plant daily im sure! Thanks for the reply
