Default Hello from Pennsylvania

Hello from southeast PA.

I recently discovered the orchid board after googling S/H growing techniques. A friend of mine turned me onto S/H for some of my plants, and the results I've seen from his collection are amazing.

I've loved orchids since I was a kid and have been keeping orchids casually for about 15 years; mostly, Phals, Dendros, Epidendrums, and Oncindiums. Most of my plants have come from my wife's office where they disposed of the plants after they finished flowering. I've never really been about to sustain them for more than a couple of years and my collection generally has remained at about a half dozen.

I'm hoping to learn a lot from the board to better care for my plants and to eventually expand my collection to include Paphs, jewels, and species.

I also keep Amaryllis, Crinums, carniverous plants (mostly Utricularias), Cryptocoryne, and Lagenandras. Planted aquariums are my other obsession.

Cheers.
Jim

Actually, Chester county on the Delaware line. Used to live about 5 miles down the road in Pike Creek, Delaware. Picked up the nick from my re-enacting days with the 93rd PVI.

Photos will be a challenge. 1; don't have many, 2; I've never gotten this posting pics on forums thing down. A bit embarassing since I'm the office techie at work.

Cheers.
Jim

Jewel Orchids also known as ludessia are mainly grown for their beautiful foliage. It's the only orchid where you can break off a piece and start a new plant (just as long as you plant it in an orchid medium) Their light requirement is low and can be grown just nearby a window.

Happy Growing!
