Default Hi guys! Bulgarian here :D

I just searched for "Bulgaria" and found it mentioned five or so times throughout the forum! So hi! I'm very passionate about plants and especially orchids, but I'm also poor so I can't afford a big collection. Furthermore, I'll be moving to a college dorm so I have no idea how that will work out for the plants I DO have. Something more unheard to mention is that I also grow M. Pudicas- "sensitive plant", folds its leaves when touched, lovely pink flowers. I have a bit of a confession- I took two bulbs from the forest this spring- they're unprotected species and yes, we have orchids, which form underground bulbs to last the dry summer and harsh winter. In fact, we have another word for the Orchidaceae family- the Salep family. Salep means testеs in Greek Orchids are named this way, because of the shapes of the bulbs of the native species...

Haha, well, one hears stories of how starving students heat themselves in winter using their laptops And who's to vouch for peeing-in-the-flower-pots room mates

Like your sense of humor. I'm familiar with the plant in the first picture or something similar, in Central America we have them as well it is fun to touch the leaf and have them close up instantly. They also have beautiful purple flowers.

I understand they're native to Central America, but from what I've seen we grow a different variant here (green vs. brown branches, lighter leaves and flowers), who knows. I've been growing them for a few years now and mailing seeds to my friends all over the country (it isn't illegal here, but I've read this plant is too much of a weed in some parts of the world )

Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome. I sometimes feel bad looking at some members' numerous collections of fancy hybrids while I pretty much have a dozen NOIDs Pretty ones, though Orchid growing seems to be picking up in Bulgaria. Until two or three years ago all we had were Phals and the occasional Ludisia. Nowadays one can be lucky enough to find Oncidiums, Dendrobiums and in the big cities even some Vandas Cymbidiums are a very rare find still, even though they would be easiest to grow in our climate. Flower markets sell their cut flowers at quite high prices, so I guess they're protecting themselves from competition? How silly.
