Those are pretty blooms. It looks like you've got your plant growing well now. Good save!

Everything it appears progressing well - a new leaf and poking roots is a great sign that Phal enjoys its new environment and is growing.

Notice that at some point, the roots may take some room in the pot. The way not to overwater it in the slow growing winter time is to just take out some bark to create more air pockets and allow roots to breath.

As an observation, when the cooler/shorter days come, it would take longer for the roots to dry (sometimes over 10 days.)

Happy Growing!

Hi optimist, I agree that more light would be a positive thing. I don't really have another spot where I could enjoy my plants on a daily basis. What do you think about putting my two phals outside until the end of summer (probably another month if warm weather here in Ontario)... And then bring them back indoors?

Hi kindrag, thanks so much... I too am concerned re orchiditis... I had to practically force muskeg out if a nursery yesterday when I saw a truly beautiful cataleya. I have promised myself that I would get more experienced with the two varieties I have before branching out. I should have photographed the one I saw to share with everyone here. I will read up on cataleyas and maybe go back to see of its still there. It's 39.99! Seems like a lot to me. If its still there then I will assume its fate.

@Bobits trust me when you look at a base of 12.00 shipping thats nothing. lol I just bought a 30 dollar Catasetum(sp) and shipping was 12.00 but it was sooo worth it. Because it will be bloom size this spring.
